TSSA Keeps You Safe

TSSA regulates the transportation, storage, handling and use of fuels in Ontario including natural gas, propane, fuel oil, gasoline, diesel, butane, hydrogen, digester gas, and landfill gas.

TSSA Registers contractors and certifies tradespeople who install and service natural gas equipment, such as furnaces and hot water heaters, stoves, fireplaces, gas barbecues, pool heaters, and more.

  • Regulates propane tanks for home barbecues, patio heaters, and other appliances.
  • Regulates mobile food service equipment (more commonly known as food trucks).
  • Licenses and inspects gas stations and marinas.
  • Regulates dispensing facilities and propane cylinder exchange sites that may sometimes be at a gas station or marina.
  • Exercises the authority to inspect fueling facilities on farms or campgrounds, at car rental agencies, at courier companies, and other similar private fuel outlets.
  • Registers Fuels Contractors as the only businesses that can legally do fuels-related work in Ontario and protects people from unscrupulous scammers.

We perform inspections; provide licences, certifications, and registrations; review and approve facility and equipment plans; and investigate fuel-related incidents.

We also promote safety awareness to protect people from the dangers of cabon monoxide through public education.

Reporting Safety Concerns

If you see anything fuel-related that appears unsafe, report it to TSSA—24 hours a day, 7 days a week—by calling 1-877-682-8772. Choose Option 1 to be connected to our incident hotline (managed by the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Energy’s Spills Action Centre).

If you witness an accident, call 911 and stay on the line to provide information about your exact location.
